Hard Choices

Recently I was asked ‘how can I make the hard choices with the all dynamics of travel?’ There are so many choices, how, when, where, who, and why! There are choices to make with airlines, carriers, tour operators, cruises, dates and times, classes of service and availability of price. That may look like a few choices, but there are many providers and each is different. Recently a couple choose their flights by connecting cities. Each traveler needs to decide what is most important. Put those preferences in order and that will help decide.

When looking at price also look at what is included in the price. For example, on cruises and resorts some are more inclusive than others. Many now have resort fees that are tacked on to the rate. And when they say all inclusive… what does that really mean? Last year I went to an all-inclusive resort and the alcohol beverages were very ordinary and if I wanted a better brand the cost was high. To me that is not quite all inclusive. This past weekend I was at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA (more of that next time) and there was no tipping! Now that is all inclusive.

Similar questions can be with hotels. What are you getting for your dollar and is it worth it to you? Some could care about the towels but for me location is most important. I recommend hotels in a good safe location. Those of you who have stayed at my favorite little hotel in Paris know exactly what I mean. You are buying a room for a few nights. Location, location, location the realtors say! But then recently a client wanted a Paris hotel with a great spa. Knowing what is most important to you is the key to choice.

Cars for me are a no brainer. We have a great discount on Hertz. I offer midsize cars or larger. Rarely will I suggest a small car. I like the steel around my friends. If you do not know what to choose, I am here to help you figure it all out. Ask my friend who is going to Venice soon. When I said Venice is exotic, she was ready to go!
