Being safe is such an important part of our lives. We need to be responsible for our environment and actions at all times. To say “I was attached” or “I was robbed because I was not paying attention” does not make the situation better.
There are several good advice rules for the road at home and abroad! Where ever we are whether is was a large urban city or small rural town there are always those who wish to take what you have without earning it! The Fourth of July is coming up with large groups of fireworks and parades, so beware.
Do not flaunt what you have! When are you wearing your fancy jewelry? How are you carrying your purse or wallet? If you are in any crowd pay attention. Move your back pack to the front; tuck that necklace inside, take that wallet out of the hip or front pocket, even if you have your hand in your pocket. It only takes a moment for some little hand to slide in and remove your wallet. I hear the stories to prove it!
Pay attention to where you are! Are you walking or driving into a very poorly lit area? Are there dark alleyways or receded areas in your path? Move into the light. Walk down the middle of the street if need be. And always walk against the traffic. If driving do not stop. If you see several people lingering on a corner keep going even if it means through a stop sign. A ticket is better than getting your car hijacked! And speaking of police, you do not need to stop, open you window or car door. If in doubt just drive slowly but deliberately to the nearest police station. Use your telephone to call 911 to learn more.
If you stop to ask directions be aware of your environs. Is the person giving you directions leading you into a trap with his friends? If you are approached by someone who you do not trust or who already attacks you. REMEMBER most often they do not want you just for your money or possessions. So throw them in one direction and you run the other. Most likely you will be safe!
