This subject I wrote about many years ago; a reminder is always good! The expectations and benefits of the luxury market: luxury cruise ships, tour operators, hotels and resorts are for ever growing. The travel industry is just like the rest of the economy and the luxury market is most healthy. In many situations it is affordable for the rest of us. The luxury hotels, resorts, and cruises are offering great amenities and discounts. Just because a product is considered luxury, please do not rule it out. I just booked some rooms for a client in San Diego. Yes, the rooms were just over $500 each but the third night was free. At that price, it is not much more than Marriott or Hyatt. Which are very nice do not get me wrong, but they are not in the luxury market.
Often so much more is included in the luxury basic price. Tour operators include more guided tours and meals. Some luxury ships and tour operators include the air fare or deep air discounts that mass market programs do not. Some include all your beverages, shore excursions and have balconies. So before you compromise for a mid price hotel or cruise ship make sure we have compared all the numbers and benefits.
What does luxury offer? What is the difference? First and foremost, the difference is service! The staff is trained to handle all your personal needs. They will do everything they can to make your visit a most pleasant experience. What can they do? If you forgot your black shoes to go with your black suit for your meeting the next day, they can find you shoes and have them delivered. They can get your suit/dress pressed or cleaned as need be. They can help you make dinner reservations for that once in a life time dinner experience. They can get tickets to events!
Then the accommodations are wonderful: big soft towels, Egyptian high count sheets, and soaps and creams to soothe you. The decor can vary from the most minimalist to high French or Italian. Rest assured it will be of the best quality. There are places that have original art from all over the world. Can you imagine sleeping under a Matisse? I know where you can!
