The best part of a personal holiday can be the planning. It is like you are already on the trip. When you do the research and learn the destination it becomes alive!
Researching maps, exploring places to visit, designing things to do, and making restaurants reservations are all a part of the planning process. Some of the trips are so easy you are tempted to do them yourself. Then there are the trips with various modes of transportation, lodging and personal reservations. These are definitely best done be with me. You can still do the planning, the fun part, but I help you put it together (the tough and timely part.) I can also make sure your plans are the best for your goals.
Obviously, I enjoy planning, because this is what I do for a living. I plan other people’s business and leisure travel trips. It is the verbs I use when I plan that suit me most: researching, learning, designing, creating, and making it all come together. It is taking the larger picture and making it very small that is the hard work. It is also the part the makes the trip the most success. Sometimes no matter how well planned, the details can get planned incorrectly. Recently, clients were to pick up a car in Chartres, France at an off-office location, and despite telephone calls and emails, the car was just not where it was supposed to be. The car was found, but sometimes these things do happen. It is what makes traveling an adventure, but good planning prevents any of these mishaps from occurring.
My Barcelona to Bordeaux holiday is almost completely planned. Still time for you to join me! I have free walking tours in Barcelona, a Gaudi tour and an old Gothic City tour. There is also a “Shadow in the Wind” tour, but I have not finished reading the book so I can not sign up for the tour yet. There will be museums and tapas before I leave for southern France and the medieval towns. I enjoy the back roads so I am studying my maps, since you may remember from an earlier newsletter that I do not do GPS. Eventually, I will be in the Dordogne Valley and wander to Bordeaux. My youngest suggested I pack my soft cloth luggage piece so I can put my clothes in it for the return and bring home wine in my hard luggage! Good planning…
Planning is fun and mostly important for the trip to work well. Even for just a quick trip from Boston to Chicago, the airline and hotel of choice needs to be correct. Let us begin planning together for your next business or leisure travel trip!
