So here is the basic plan. It is clearly modifiable depending on who wants to do what.
I will do my best to include you! Singles or couples, sharing or not, all are most welcomed. This will be fun. Eating and lodging can also de done individually, occasionally, or all the time if you wish. This will allow each to control their own budget. I tend to eat and sleep very nicely!
Here is the itinerary: Arrive in Barcelona, Spain for a few nights, then drive into France to the medieval towns of Perpignan and Carcassonne, north to Albi and Sarlat, and finally, west to the vineyards and Bordeaux. Plan for 12 – 14 days (I have not decided.) This will be a very visually stimulating tour as well as a tasty one! In the main cities Barcelona and Bordeaux, you may do your own thing if you wish. There are lots of choices of museums, cathedrals, gardens, and architecture. Or we can wander together. Tours can be arranged as needed. Most of the itinerary is in southern France’s ancient and historic towns. Albi has a Toulouse Lautrec poster museum. Sarlat is near the prehistoric caves. The itinerary does have a bit of movement, but we will stay more than one night is most places. There will be time to absorb all the flavors and visuals. And of course taste the different foie gras and delicious Bordeaux wines!!!
This itinerary has been in my head for several years. Here is the basic budget:
– Airfare around $1,300 coach class
– Sharing a room $2,000 at least
– Meals as you wish (I would budget $100 a day)
Total budget is around $4,500 to $5,000 per person based on double occupancy.
I will certainly do my best to get the hotel cost down. We still have to include cars, gas, and entrance fees but that will not be a lot and of course shopping is up to you. In general, this is not necessarily a shopping trip.
What do you think? I will be finalizing the planning soon. Since this is not a typical group tour with blocked hotel rooms, I can add people along the way. It is just us arranging as we wish. Prices will be guaranteed upon booking reservations.
